Liechtenstein blog …
Knowing how to start this Liechtenstein blog was easy, because OMG Liechtenstein is like a picture perfect place – just outrageous! It’s as manicured as Slovenia, and more so than Switzerland even! How do they keep all of that grass so pristine looking – it’s amazing!
We’d spent most of the day travelling from Lake Garda in Italy, over the Berninapass and the Flüelapass, which was just fantastic! But it meant that by the time we arrived in Liechtenstein, it was already late afternoon. We didn’t even realise we’d entered the country until we’d passed some flag poles – a quick about turn to check and wow, look at those mountains – they’re so pointy!!
Considering Liechtenstein has the world’s second highest rate of car ownership, where are all the cars? Lots of traffic as you can see from these pictures! We passed a petrol station where the price was over €2 per litre – maybe that’s why there’s no cars about!
We travelled through the walled capital Vaduz, with it’s population of six thousand people! Yes six thousand only – I kinda wish I lived there to be honest! 😉 Vaduz is lovely by the way, really pretty, with its little castle where the prince lives – it’s like something out of a fairy tale!
We’d booked ahead and picked a hotel high up in the mountains – in Malbun! We love mountains – in case you hadn’t guessed from all of the other blogs where we mention that! It was fantastic – they treated us like royalty. The food was spectacular. The staff were excellent. It was everything we’d hoped for! Ski resorts out of season really are excellent value.
As you can see, Liechtenstein is truly a very stunning country. Whenever we’re next over this way, we’ll definitely be staying in Liechtenstein again. If you ever get the chance we thoroughly recommend it!
After three months of almost non-stop travelling, we really are getting tired now it seems, time for that break we think!
Liechtenstein part 2
As we’d circled back around to revisit some of the mountain passes in Switzerland, we ended up travelling back through Liechtenstein again on our way through Austria. As we were about to enter Austria, we were stopped by the border police, which was faintly amusing. ‘Where are you going?’, he asked. ‘Austria’. ‘Where have you come from?’ ‘Switzerland.’ What is your purpose in Liechtenstein?’, he asked. ‘Tourism.’ He looked disdainful and then waved me through. Lol, what else was I going to say, even if it was the truth? And why did he bother? After all its Liechtenstein, moving from one Schengen country to another via another!! maybe he was just surprised to see someone who wasn’t from Switzerland, Austria or Liechtenstein; and it finally broke up his day!
