European Road trip 2024 – Let’s explore here!

Following our monumental 19,000 mile (31,000 km) European road trip in 2024, this is an approximate map of all of the countries in Europe that we visited and stayed over in. There’s much more detail below.

What route did we plan for our 2024 European road trip map?

For our European road trip 2024 we planned our approximate overland route that we’d be driving, which you can see on the travel map below. Our planned road trip started in Leeds in, England, UK, and moved down around the west coast of France, across northern Spain, through Portugal, Gibraltar, back up through Spain, Andorra, along the Mediterranean coast of France, Monaco, Italian riviera, through Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta, Tunisia, Algeria, back up through Italy, and back to the UK.

We planned this route because it would take us through mainland Spain and Portugal, Andorra and Malta, which we missed last year. Plus we’ve always wanted to visit Corsica and Sardinia. Tunisia and Algeria were add ons to the European trip, and the latter was dependent on a visa.

What route did we actually take on our 2024 European road trip?

Our planned route in the map above was always only ever a rough route. We explored the countries much more in depth than the planned route states. Also the planned route map is limited by the number of waypoints that can be depicted.

Due to the amount of time that we spent exploring, we (inevitably) fell well behind schedule. Also we were robbed in Portugal, and had to make our way back to the UK to obtain new documentation. Plus, there had been a great deal of very dangerous flooding in both Italy and France. Because of this, our route changed to ensure we could continue our journey.
