German alpine road – Let’s explore here

The German alpine road is a beautiful road trip from Linda through to Königssee, not surprisingly following the German Alps. Whilst the views are not as spectacular as in Germany’s neighbours Austria and Switzerland, nevertheless the road is a good one, with lots of picturesque towns and villages along the way, and lots of lovely mountain scenery. It’s around is around 320 miles (515 km) long, and it’s very popular amongst tourist due to the amazing architecture in many of the towns and villages.

A lot of the route is clearly marked with signposts, helping you to ensure that you’re continuing on the Alpine route. Although some newer roads have been constructed over the originals, so it’s still easy to get way-laid from time to time. We found the people along the route to be incredibly friendly and approachable though, so a very relaxing journey all in all.

The only downside for us was the dense fog that lined the route every morning, sometimes not lifting until 11am, sometimes not lifting from the valleys at all. This may be because we drove the route in November?

Accommodation is plentiful along the route, although some were clearly taking the fame of the route into their pricing. We found it best to look around off the direct route!
