North America covers almost 16.5% of the land area on the planet, and has about 7.5% of the world’s population. Each country has an incredible richness to its history, and historically there is no part of North America that has not been affected in one way or another by those in power in Europe. There are currently 23 countries in North America, and Canada is the largest country by area, whereas St Kitts and Nevis is the smallest.

Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua and Barbuda consists of the two major Caribbean islands, as well as a number of much smaller islands. Click the image for more info
Bahamas
The Bahamas consists of over 700 islands spread out over 500 miles (800km) in the Caribbean. The largest island is Andros. Click the image for more info
Barbados
Barbados sits in the Atlantic Ocean and is the most eastern of all the Caribbean islands. It’s just a bit larger than the Isle of Wight. Click the image for more info
Belize
Belize’s population is less than ½ million (2023), making it the least populous country in central America. Click the image for more info
Canada
Canada is the second largest country in the world, and has the world’s longest coastline, at 125,000 miles (202,000 km). Click the image for more info
Costa Rica
There are fourteen known volcanoes in Costa Rica, and six of them have been active in the last 75 years. The highest point is Cerro Chirripó. Click the image for more info
Cuba
Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean at 745 miles long and 125 miles in width. It also consists of over 4,000 much smaller islands. Click the image for more info
Dominica
Dominica is a small island in the Caribbean, about twice the size of the Isle of Wight, being approximately 29 miles long and 16 miles wide. Click the image for more info
Dominican Republic

El Salvador

Mexico

Nicaragua
Nicaragua is a country in central America, about the same size as England. The west contains 40 volcanoes, many of which are still active. Click the image for more info
Panama
Panama is a country in central America, about ⅓ the size of the United Kingdom. Across the centre lies the Cordillera de Talamanca mountains. Click the image for more info

Saint Kitts and Nevis consists of two islands are separated from each other by a distance of 2 miles (3km). Click the image for more info
Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia mostly consists of mountains and forest being part of a volcanic chain. It is also home to the world’s only drive-in volcano. Click the image for more info

Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago consists of the two main islands and a set of 20 much smaller islands. It’s located not far (about 7 miles) from the coast of Venezuela. Click the image for more info
