United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland – Let’s explore here
The United Kingdom (UK) is a wealthy nation located off the north west coast of Mainland Europe. It’s composed of four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The UK also has fourteen British Overseas Territories around the world, including Anguilla, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
The UK has a long and rich history that has influenced and impacted much of the world. As the creator of the world’s largest empire, and the world’s greatest power during the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the first industrialised nation, there are few countries in the world that haven’t been affected directly by the UK. The English language is the mostly widen spoken language in the world, and the cultural impact of the UK is second to none.
It has a varied landscape, mainly pasture, although forests, woodlands, moors and lakes are abundant. There are many castles, an incredible history and the folklore is also extremely rich. The highest point is Ben Nevis in Scotland, at 4,413 ft (1,345m) above sea level.
There’s so much to see and do in the UK that we’ve created separate pages for each country. If you’re interested to know more, or view some images of the places that we like the most, click on the images below …
